A Valuable By-product
The sugar production process results in many by-products like bagasse and molasses. Ethanol is one of the most important by-products of sugar. Ethanol is an alcohol-based fuel produced by the fermentation of sugarcane juice and molasses, which has a wide usage.
Shri Dutt produces ethanol as a by-product of sugar production. Our mills typically crush cane with 13.5%-14% total fermentable sugars (TFS) content. Cane juice is collected and delivered to a fermentation tank, where the yeast fermentation reaction generates ethanol. The leftover fibrous residue called bagasse has 45%-50% moisture content and is used to generate electricity for in-plant use.
Shri Dutt has two distilleries bearing a total capacity of 400 KLPD at its plants in Maharashtra and Karnataka.
Esteemed Customers
Ethanol has emerged as a leading renewable fuel for the transportation sector. As a result, leading Indian oil manufacturing companies procure ethanol from Shri Dutt.
Some Applications
Ethanol is a clean, affordable and low-carbon bio fuel. Ethanol can be mixed with petrol to form different blends. As the ethanol molecule contains oxygen, it leads to the complete combustion of the fuel, resulting in fewer emissions and thereby reducing environmental pollution.
Apart from above, ethanol is also used as an antiseptic and a medical solvent. It is used in the manufacture of drugs, plastics, lacquers, polishes, plasticisers and cosmetics. Everyday use products like beverages, perfumes, aftershaves and colognes, medicinal liquids, mouthwashes and rubbing alcohols contain ethanol.
